Course information:

Iyengar yoga is a practice that recognises the complexity and interdependence of mind and body, and can be of great benefit to both. This is true for all people, regardless of age, health, fitness or experience.

Students in this 5-week program learn and become familiar with adapted poses from the Introductory Course syllabus. Sequences and modifications can be written up for reference in home practice and future classes.

Students may proceed to the Introductory Program or re-enrol in the Bridging Access Course for further consolidation after completion of this course. Students continue to work with their adapted poses as long as required.

Our aim is to enable access for all.

Smaller student numbers in these classes enable students to develop and learn at their own pace in a supportive environment, which allows more individual time with the teacher.
Yoga is an ancient mind-body practice that can have a profound effect upon one’s experience of being. Iyengar yoga integrates highly defined actions in the body and mental observations in real-time. These actions, called asanas are based upon postural alignments and are therefore well suited to people with physical injuries and medical conditions.

The aim of a yoga practice is not to improve at doing yoga poses.

The aim of a yoga practice is to develop skills in self-study so that over time one can learn to let go of unhelpful or harmful beliefs that prevent us from experiencing our connection with all things. Yoga means union. Whilst the practices are often beneficial physically and can alleviate certain conditions that have arisen out of postural imbalances, our model is not a therapeutic one. The aim of our Bridging Course is to provide a pathway into the course syllabus. Students learn modifications and adaptations for poses that are covered in the Introductory courses.

Yoga Bridge 5 – Week Course

“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.” ~B.K.S. Iyengar

…I had not thought that it would be possible to successfully participate in yoga due to my physical limitations. Many years ago I had attended a community-run class but left feeling dismayed and discouraged because I couldn’t do most of the poses. Recently my physiotherapist and pilates teacher told me about Amanda’s classes and thought her approach might work for me.

Initially,  I had some 1:1 sessions with Amanda and then progressed to the Bridge to Yoga course… Amanda is a highly experienced, pragmatic and considered teacher. She does not accept “I can’t do that pose”. Instead she asks “what is needed to support you in the pose?” Adjustments are made that are safe and supportive and her explanations and  instructions are easy to follow. I have found this course and Amanda’s approach empowering, encouraging and motivating. I feel that I am progressing, more in tune with my body and stronger. I highly recommend this course with Amanda Hood.”
